Curriculum CoachingOur writing consultant, Najla Staggers, spent a day in each of the three elementary schools this past week, as our “Writers’ Workshop” initiative is well under way for a second year. This year's work will include developing a scoring benchmark system using our new writing rubric and a calibration process for all teachers of writing in kindergarten through grade six.
Our new math consultant, Jaime Rechenburg, was in the District attending a planning session with Mr. Giegerich and Dr. Karsh, as well. Her “coaching” will begin in the next month at the middle school. In addition to spending time observing and coaching teachers, she will assist others in further identifying math content that is aligned with the Connecticut Core Standards. She will also assist middle school teachers to create content that is enriched for more able learners and new ways to support learners needing who are struggling with math content.
These professional learning opportunities are funded through Connecticut State Department of Education and federal education grants.
